On SUNDAY 22ND AUGUST Get Loaded Events are proud to present GET LOADED IN THE PARK,
a lazy, sun-drenched day of music on CLAPHAM COMMON. For one night only,
THE HAPPY MONDAYS featuring SHAUN RYDER and BEZ will take to the stage for
a very special live performance.

Mondays front man Shaun Ryder jumped at the chance to get involved in this exciting project,
“For me this is about putting something back in. I’ve been working with Get Loaded and Kav for some time now and when the lads came up with the idea and said we’d be pushing loads of new bands as well, it just seem only right to be involved. I’m not dealing with corporate’s here, I’m dealing with a group of lads who just wanna make something happen!”

As one of the Godfathers of the Indie/Dance scene and arguably one of the most influential bands in UK history, The Happy Mondays last played together back in the summer of 2000 with Oasis
as part of their own headlining tour. Since 2000, a fall-out between Shaun and Bez resulted in a turbulent relationship between the Mondays. After years of refusing public appearances,
Shaun and Bez were finally brought back together by GET LOADED, the pioneering new monthly club at TURNMILLS. The soundtrack to Get Loaded is a mixture of Indie/Rock/Funk/Northern Soul and Breaks or as Get Loaded Promoter Kav Sandhu puts it, “There’s none of this we’re too cool for school bollocks, this is a party night. The people that come down to Get Loaded have a good drink, a good laugh and a dance. It shouldn’t be about trends or categories, it’s just about
getting up there and playing music and enjoying it.
It’s a mash of everything and that’s what Get Loaded is all about.”

Since its launch in February 2004, Shaun Ryder has taken on the role of resident DJ, inviting down cult heroes like Mani and Monday’s pal Bez to spin their favourite tunes. The next Get Loaded event takes place at Turnmills on THURSDAY 1ST JULY with former Factory Records boss, ex-Hacienda manager and subject of the film “24 Hour Party People” TONY WILSON playing an exclusive DJ set.

“Shaun Ryder is just as much a part of Get Loaded as we are”, enthuses Turnmills M.D Danny Newman. “When we told him about our plans for this festival, Shaun jumped at the chance to get involved. Essentially Get Loaded was born as an outlet for new bands, new music and new ideas
to blossom into something bigger.” This is exactly what happened to Kav and his band a few years ago when Shaun Ryder went on tour with them across the UK. Kav has since formed a new band, Sonic Audio and he has the honour of playing guitar alongside Shaun and The Happy Mondays for this special event on the Common. Now as a fundamental part of Get Loaded, Shaun wants to repeat that success and Kav explains the philosophy they both share, “It’s about giving new
talent the chance to shine through - bands that possibly haven’t had the opportunities,
the money or the backing in the past to showcase their talents to a wider audience.
Get Loaded in the Park is the opportunity of a lifetime and we fully intend to make everybody aware of our beliefs and what we stand for. We receive anything up to 100 CDs a day from unsigned bands, so the festival idea was the logical next step.”

Whether The Mondays will ever play another gig remains to be seen, but what we do know for certain is that this really is an ultra-rare chance to see one of dance music’s most important
bands “Twisting your melons” live on stage. And where better than a Sunday afternoon on Clapham Common, chilling out with your mates in the sun?

The Happy Mondays will headline the main stage with DJ support from GRAEME PARK (Hacienda), the legendary ARTHUR BAKER, plus Get Loaded regulars CLINT BOON (Insprial Carpets),
New Order bass player PETER HOOK and ANDY ROURKE & MIKE JOYCE (The Smiths). In addition, Bez’s new band DOMINO BONES (signed to Shaun Ryder’s new label)
will make an exclusive appearance, plus there are still more special guests to be announced.

The two support stages – I Swear I Was There and Get Loaded will both host a full day of music.
On the I SWEAR I WAS THERE stage look out for live performances from some of the capital’s coolest new bands including THE CRIBS, THE LUDES, THE STABILSERS, LYSAKOSKI, DWARF ORGY, DEVIL AND MISS JONES, JISM, HEADLAND, THE VIOLETS and THE DUKES. In between all that
PAT LONG, JOHNNY & SARSH (Ted Benson), ALL STAR DJ JAM and JONNY DJ, will be mixing up anything from hip-hop to funk and rock behind the decks, whilst ART BRUT play an acoustic set
live on stage. More acoustic sets are planned for the day by some surprise guests,
but you’ll have to come down and see for yourselves who will be revealed – we promise
you won’t be disappointed! The I Swear I Was There stage will be run by Olly from Twenty Four Records.
Get Loaded Promoter Kav is a big fan, “He’s an excellent independent promoter
who fits in with our policy at Get Loaded of promoting and pushing new bands and new talent.
He’s just a guy with a dream and he’s doing it!!”

The supporting GET LOADED STAGE will feature a selection of the best newly signed bands alongside the hottest up-and-coming unsigned talent. THE BROKEN DOLLS, recently signed to Fatboy Slim’s record label and heavily supported by Radio 1 top the bill with a second headline act to be confirmed. LENDER, THE SEEN, THE FACULTY and IMPERIAL LEISURE also play live with DJ support from X-FM’s SHAUN KEAVENY and Get Loaded DJs POSS and ARON.
